Updates

If you’re really bored, I finally got around to updating the “About” tab to include Miracle. It’s about time the new girl gets some respect!

Fuzzy personalities

I’ve been paying a lot of attention to the personality differences between Moo and Tu lately.  I’ve noticed that they’re nearly polar opposites.  I though I’d point out some of my observations:

  • Tulip is very athletic.  Moo is a bull in a china shop.
  • Tulip is like an impatient little kid.  Moo has enough patience for both of them.
  • Tulip is mostly tough.  Moo is mostly sweet.
  • Tulip always looks like she’s smiling, but she’s usually cranky.  Moo always looks like she’s frowning, but she’s usually happy.
  • Tulip wants something to eat ALL the time.  Moo could take it or leave it outside of actual meal time (not that you could tell by her figure).
  • Tulip likes to play “chase”.  Moo has no idea what “chase” is.
  • Tulip is ready to go when the alarm clock goes off.  Moo likes to sleep in.
  • Tulip likes to nap in one of her many kitty beds.  Moo likes to nap on top of the kitty bowling toy.
  • Tulip’s idea of hanging out with us is lying on the rug at our feet.  Moo’s idea of hanging out with us is lying on our laps or on the back of the couch by our heads.
  • Tulip scratches on her scratching post.  Moo scratches on the chair, the wall, the screen door, and anything else she encounters.
  • When people come to visit, Tulip hides.  When people come to visit, Moo runs over to greet them.

I naively thought they would be much more similar because they’re both blind.  I attributed a lot of Tulip’s shyness, etc. with her blindness.  I stand corrected.  I’m still amazed by observing them and how they interact.  They’re so different, but they’re both SO awesome in their own ways.  What cool kitties!

2 peas in a pod

Since it was such a gorgeous day, I took the girls out on the deck for some fresh air.  Before I knew it, each had settled into one of the deck chairs on either side of the door.  My little pair of tiger sentinels.

The kitties are playing now!

When I came home from school last night, the kitties greeted me on the stairs.  No hissing.  No swatting at each other.  I was impressed.  I came in and put all my stuff down and gave each of them a pet on the head.  The next thing I knew, Moo started walking away.  Tulip heard this and scrunched down low for a second before leaping at her.  Moo jumped and ran away.  BUT, as soon as Tu started walking away, Moo did the same thing back to her!  They went back and forth like this, stalking and startling each other for several minutes.  They even batted the toys around a bit in the process.  It was wonderful!

This morning, Tu was ready to continue the games.  Moo was not so convinced.  She’s a little slow-moving after breakfast.  She normally likes to play about the time I’m ready to go to bed.  They did punk each other back and forth a few times.  It’s great to see them interacting.

They still seem to be figuring each other out.  The definitely have their disagreements, but I’m so thrilled to announce that they are both still trying to reach out to each other.  What good little punks!

I’m on a mission to get this on video now.  I was so overwhelmed by the cuteness that I didn’t grab the camera.

Rainy day

Right before I left for work this morning, it was raining pretty hard.  Moo was curled up in a fleece blanket on the couch.  She was just as warm and content as could be.  I couldn’t help but think how nice it would be to climb into that blanket and nap with her all day.  Ah, the life of a spoiled kitty.

Kitty update

Finally, another update!  Sorry.  I’ve been very busy with work and school.  Here’s what the girls have been up to:

Both appear to be over their colds.  No more sneezing and drippy noses.

I wouldn’t call them friends, but they do interact a little bit.  Often it’s to take a swat at each other.  But on occasion they walk up to each other and touch noses.  That’s usually followed by a hiss or a swat, but at least they seem to be trying.

They do eat together at every meal now.  Sometimes they’re unsure about trusting each other while they eat.  Usually they get over it when the food hits the bowl.  This usually goes pretty well.

One a few occasions I’ve been able to get Moo to sleep on the bed with us, as you can see below.  Usually Moo will leave almost immediately after I put her on the bed.  I have to wait until she’s really tired if I want her to stay.  Then after some growling and grumbling, I can sometimes get them to sleep, one on either side of me.

Overall they’re doing pretty well together.  I had really hoped they would hit it off right from the start, but that was wishful thinking.  After all, it took about a year for Tu to really settle in and trust us 100%.  Hopefully she’ll come around.

There are a few more photos in the FlickR photo stream to the right, if you want to see what else they’ve been up to.
