Moo has suddenly decided that she likes Tulip’s big kitty bed. For the longest time she wanted nothing to do with it. Recently she decided to give it a shot. The big bed is in the office, which is the warmest room in the house. I think that’s why they enjoy their afternoon naps in there.
The other day Tulip went into the office and discovered Moo in her bed. She sniffed her, then left the room disgusted. Today, the shoe was on the other foot. Moo went in there to have a nap and Tulip was already in the bed. Moo left very disappointed and hopped up on our bed. At least she gets to curl up in the down blanket. They’re going to have to make appointments to nap now!
There’s probably enough room for both of them in the big kitty bed, if they’d just be nice to each other. Maybe they’re working their way up to that, because I caught them napping together on the couch. I have evidence! I’ll post the pictures in the next day or two.
Last night I got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. Tulip was sleeping in her little kitty bed next to our bed. Apparently she didn’t hear me stirring around. When I got up and took a step, she shot up out of the bed like I had startled the daylights out of her. I reached down to give her a pet, then walked down the hall to the bathroom.
When I came back, it was quite dark. I didn’t bother to turn the light on since it’s a straight shot. As I was almost to the bed, I heard a blood-curdling screech. I never even felt it, but I had stepped on Tulip’s tail! I flipped the light on to see where she went. She flopped herself down on the hallway rug in her “no pet” position. I thought she’d try to bite me, but I scooped her up anyway. She was pitiful. She was all curled up in a ball with her tail tucked, and the tip of it was hugely puffy (like all the fur was standing on end). I could see that it looked OK. She was just really upset. I put her down on the bed in a heap of blankets and consoled her.
Of course, Miss Miracle was all concerned about what was happening. She ran to the edge of the bed to “see” what happened. Even after Tulip was in bed, Moo was still peering over the edge of the bed. I wonder if she thought a monster was down there. After a while, I got everyone to settle down and go to sleep. It was quite a lot of activity for the middle of the night though. You gotta watch where you leave your tail around our house!
Our friend Michelle Allen is a wonderful artist. At some point, she was apparently inspired by Miss Tulip Kitty because she made this adorable Tulip Kitty clock:
If you go to the FlickR photo stream on the right, you can see a larger version of these photos so you can get a closer look at the details. It’s beautiful! Miss Moo was very interested in checking it out as well:
Unfortunately, I couldn’t get Tulip to come join in the fun. She was a little bit intimidated by the both of us trying to coax her over. I’ll have to get a picture of her with it at some point. The stripes on the face and legs are hilarious.Tu’s stripes are my favorite feature of hers, so it’s fun to see them accentuated here. And I love the little birds. The one on the pendulum at the bottom swings back and forth. Thank you so much, Michelle, for the awesome gift! We love it.
Please take some time to check out more of Michelle’s artwork. She has many cool clocks and pieces of art available at Allen Designs. I’m not sure if she has more of the Tulip Kitty clock or not, but I’ll find out and report back!
** I checked with Michelle. She does have more of the Tulip Kitty clocks. They are not listed on her website. However, if you’d like to purchase one, you can contact her directly through the Allen Designs website.
We’ve discovered that Moo meows a lot when she plays. And not just a little meow. She bellows at the top of her little kitty lungs. She walks around with the crinkle ball or one of the other soft toys in her mouth, letting out these unbelievably loud meows as she makes her way around. I HAVE to get this on video. In fact, I’m going to try to get her to do it tonight.
I’ve also discovered that she does this mooing act every time I get into the shower. She’s out in the other room, so I can’t see if she’s really playing or crying because I’m in the shower. In any case, she’s loud. Plenty loud enough for me to hear at the other end of the house with the water running. We don’t call her Moo for nothing!
