It seems the kitties have finally come to a truce. They never really fought, but they bickered quite a lot. It was really starting to get me down.
Eve and I talked about it and realized that we were favoring Moo. Any time we heard squabbling, we yelled at Tulip. We noticed that it was really breaking Tulip’s spirit. We also noticed that Moo acted like a prima donna because she knew we had her back. We decided that since it was just bitchiness and not real fighting that we’d just stop interfering and let them work it out.
The change was pretty much instant. On the first night, Tulip snuck up on Moo and pounced on her. We didn’t say a word. Moo was shocked that we didn’t defend her. Tulip ran off like she expected to get scolded and appeared surprised that she didn’t. They both seemed confused over what was going on. That night we left them both in the living room and decided they could come to bed on their own if they felt like it. Moo came in an crawled up the side of the bed. When I fell asleep Tulip was still in the living room.
When I woke up in the morning, Tu and Moo were curled up together sleeping next to my legs. I was so shocked that I didn’t know what to do. I thought Tulip would wake up and start a fight. Instead, she woke up, touched noses with Moo, then came up to me for her morning pets. Who are these cats and what have they done with Tu and Moo!?!
Ever since then it’s been pretty smooth sailing. Most of the squabbling has ended. They don’t typically curl up together, but they like to nap near one another. They chase each other. Sometimes they bat the toys around together. Even the punking is now mutual. I think they’re really starting to enjoy hanging out with each other. Good kitties!
