As much as we would like them to be, Tulip and Moo are not “free eaters”. In other words, they get fed twice a day rather than having a bowl of food to pick at whenever they feel like. That’s because Tulip would continue to eat until the bowl was empty or she popped like a balloon, whichever came first. As a result, Tulip will do her best to gobble up any food that Moo leaves behind after meal time.
The other day they were finishing up dinner. Moo walked away, leaving a few crunchies in her bowl. Tulip emptied her own bowl, then immediately went for Moo’s. I quietly walked up until I was standing right over her and said in a low voice, “Hey. What are you doing?” As she “looked” up at me with a guilty little face, one little crunchie fell out of her open mouth onto the floor.
“I wasn’t doing anything, Mama. That’s not mine.”
It reminded me of that scene from The Royal Tenenbaums where Gwyneth Paltrow drops the cigarettes that she claims aren’t hers.
“You dropped something.”
“No I didn’t.”
